The Preface

Living in Boise, it's hard sometimes to find all the CD's you want, but I finally got "The Preface" by Elzhi in Seattle! I gotta say, this is probably one of the best CD's I've ever bought, and one of the most slept on. Elzhi is definitely one of the best rappers ever. He's the "Q-Tip" of Slum Village and he recently came out with a solo album. El's creativity flows all over the album.

On "D.E.M.O.N.S.", El uses the letters of that word to speak each of his sentences (which is more impressive when you actually hear it); on "Guessing Game", he makes you think that he ended his sentences, but will actually continue it into the next sentence (if that makes sense...); and on "Colors", El uses the color spectrum all throughout his verses to describe various situations (blue collar workers, pink slips, etc.). These are only a snippet of the guy's unimaginable creativity on the album. These are obviously some of my favorite tracks but I thoroughly enjoy "Brag Swag" out of all of them.

Good beats and good rhymes...what else do you need in hip hop?

The album features appearances by the usual Motor City crew; T3, Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, Royce Da 5'9, and some more, and the majority of production is handled by Black Milk. This is definitely worth a listen. In no particular order, my top four rappers are Elzhi, Andre 3000, Phonte, and Turbo. Get mad, and get this CD too.

Here are some songs if you care to listen.
